We boldly go. -We are hiring a Refrigerant Systems Chemistry Technical Leader as part of our Materials & Chemistry Network of Excellence, which is part of our Global Advanced Technology Organization. The mission of the Materials & Chemistry Network of Excellence is to enable product innovation through leading-edge material and chemistry technologies. We do this by leveraging internal expertise and external partners to accelerate technology implementation and translation across Trane Technologies strategic business units. -As the Refrigerant Systems Chemistry Technical Leader, you will be part of our company cross-functional Refrigerants Technology team led by our Global Refrigerants Director. -As part of this team, you will work with other cross-functional team members to help assess new refrigerant system chemistries that enable new product innovation aimed at meeting future Low Global-Warming Potential regulatory targets. You will also collaborate with the Refrigerants Director and the System Chemistry Lab Manager to define the refrigerants chemistry project portfolio and, in part, oversee execution. You will also interface with other technical leaders as part of the broader Materials & Chemistry Network of Excellence, Advanced Technology and Innovation teams, to support technical strategies, assist in evaluation of emerging application technologies, and develop advanced testing capabilities internally and with external partners. This position will allow you to work in a hybrid work environment our of La Crosse, WI; Minneapolis, MN; or Davidson, NC.Responsibilities

  • Together with rest of the cross-functional Refrigerants Technology team, scan for new low-GWP refrigerant chemistries, refrigerant industry trends, competitive developments and regulatory landscape to collectively assemble a view that together with the Refrigerants Director helps create a collective opinion that guides company direction and decisions.
  • Collaborate with the Refrigerants Director and System Chemistry Lab Manager to define the chemistry project portfolio that is aligned with the scanning done by the Refrigerants team, and, in part, oversee execution and assist with the interpretation of the results to evaluate the feasibility and applicability of new refrigerant system technologies.
  • Partner with other SBU refrigerant leaders and broader Materials & Chemistry Network of Excellence, Advanced Technology and Innovation teams to mature leading refrigerant systems and develop application translation data that accelerates next-generation product innovation.
  • Work closely with Procurement, Manufacturing, and other functions to provide consulting on business continuity opportunities and provide technical guidance to the System Chemistry Team and Lab on chemistry technical services to meet the company's operational goals.
  • Coach and grow system chemistry talent and identify opportunities to keep our chemistry capabilities on the leading-edge through new test development for refrigerants, lubricants and other related materials.
  • Contribute to and own key aspects of strategy, technology, and application development initiatives in refrigerant system chemistry applications across Trane Technologies products and solutions. -
  • Collaborate with external partners to assess emerging refrigerant system technologies, accelerate technology maturation and build interest within the company. Network with industry associations in the area of refrigerant systems to influence standards and promote the company.Qualifications
    • Strong technical background and problem-solving skills in chemical sciences with a minimum of bachelor's degree in Chemistry, or other relevant science or engineering degree. Master's degree is preferred. PhD also considered.
    • 10+ years of industrial leadership, demonstrated capability to scan & screen for new technologies, evaluate and build a portfolio of successful research projects driving impactful business outcomes.
    • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills. Able to convey business implications of complex technical findings and externally represent the best interests of the company.
    • Knowledge in and experience with refrigerant and lubricant chemistries in HVAC also desired.
    • Research and IP management experience with a track record of patents and publications a plus.
