secure your future. Responsibilities Mayo Clinic's Division of
General Internal Medicine in Rochester is one of the largest
academic general internal medicine divisions in the world - serving
as the gateway in evaluating and caring for adult patients that may
have unexplained symptoms and/or complex medical conditions.
Consultative Medicine Clinic (a section of GIM) provides
consultative medical care to patients that reside outside of
Olmsted county in Minnesota. Consultative Medicine sees new
patients to Mayo Clinic for an initial comprehensive evaluation.
The LPN role in Consultative Medicine includes, but is not limited
to, patient visits (face to face and via telephone) review of
patient health history, medication review, immunization
administration, focused nutrition assessments, and blood pressure
visits. Telehealth interactions may include collecting pertinent
information prior to their arrival to the clinic, researching
prescription discrepancies, and/or facilitating prior authorization
denials. The LPN collaborates daily with physicians, nursing
colleagues, and support staff. The licensed practical nurse (LPN)
provides nursing care to assigned patients under the direct
supervision of the registered nurse (RN) or other assigned
supervisor and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor
in meeting the needs of the patient/family. The LPN collects data
through observation and communicates information to assist the RN
and/or provider in patient assessment and care planning. The LPN
participates as a member of the health care team and accepts
delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor and provider in meeting
needs of the patient/family. The LPN delivers care in accordance
with the patient care plan, policies and procedures of the
organization and principles of relationship-based care. The LPN
possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring
and instructing; and may participate on committees or projects,
including quality improvement projects. Qualifications Graduate of
a school of practical nursing or passed LPN Boards after a defined
period in a professional nursing program (e.g., some states allow
RN students to take the LPN board exam after completing one to two
years in the RN program). If graduation did not occur within the
last two years, one year of LPN experience working in an applicable
setting is required. One year LPN experience within the last five
years preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and
written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills
required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems
preferred. Ability to work daytime hours, flexibility may be
required to meet staffing needs. Ability to adapt to unpredictable
situations within the work setting. Graduate of an accredited
school of practical nursing preferred. Ability to adapt to
unpredictable situations within the clinical and/or research
settings. Able to work effectively with multiple members of the
interdisciplinary care team. Demonstrates strong, effective and
open communication skills to achieve mutual understanding and build
trust and rapport with team members. Able to work in a rapidly
changing environment while participating in developing innovative
and creative solutions to patient care. Excels in creative
experimentation and is able to explore new paths, procedures, and
/or approaches to models of care teams. Displays flexibility in
adapting and coping with accelerated changes within the
environment. Current LPN license by applicable state requirements.
Arizona and Florida: Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) for
Health Care Providers. Midwest: Maintains current Basic Life
Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following
programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work
area. Positions that are not on campus may not require current
Basic Life Support (BLS) competency as determined by the work area.
