SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse is responsible for rendering nursing
care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment,
planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation; and
effectively interacts with patients, significant others and other
health team members while maintaining standards of professional
nursing. This position requires the Healthcare Professional (HCP)
to be able to respond to last minute, emergency and disaster needs
as well as long term staffing assignments. REPORTS TO: Responsible
to the charge nurse/supervisor on the specific unit assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE: To perform this job successfully, the
individual must be able to perform each essential duty
satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of
the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Must adhere to all
local, State and Federal regulations and be held to the Joint
Commission’s standards. Computer experience, ability to participate
in electronic self-scheduling. Ability to communicate through
electronic methods. Ability to handle a heavier patient load.
Ability to work with minimal orientation. Ability to fill last
minute needs – less than 12 hours notice. Knowledge of the
terminology, theory, techniques and practices of professional
nursing. Knowledge of medicines along with their effects, side
effects and contraindications. Knowledge of machines and
specialized equipment for special procedures. Knowledge to
establish effective working relationships with physicians, patients
and fellow workers. Knowledge to analyze facts and conditions and
apply sound nursing principles in making decisions. Knowledge to
follow technical procedures, use good judgment and utilize proper
measures in the care of patients. Knowledge and ability to handle
emergency situations. Knowledge to take charge of Code Blue
situations until the physician arrives. Evidence of BLS
credentials. Current, valid registered nurse license in state of
practice. One year of nursing experience with six months of nursing
experience in area of specialty applying. ESSENTIAL POSITION
DUTIES: Conduct an individualized patient assessment, prioritizing
the data collection based on the patient’s immediate condition or
needs within timeframe specified by client facility’s policies,
procedures or protocols. Conduct ongoing assessments as determined
by the patient’s condition and/or the client facility’s policies,
procedures or protocols and reprioritizes accordingly. Develop plan
of care that is individualized for the patient reflecting
collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. Perform
appropriate treatments as ordered by physician in an accurate and
timely manner. Perform therapeutic nursing interventions as
established by individualized plan of care for the patient and
his/her family. Provide individualized patient/family education
customized to the patient and his/her family. Document patient
assessment findings, physical/psychosocial responses to nursing
intervention and progress toward problem resolution. Initiate
emergency resuscitative measures according to protocols. Maintain
confidentiality in matters related to patient, family and client
facility staff. Provide care in a non-judgmental,
non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the patient’s and
family’s diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights.
Report patient condition to appropriate personnel during each
shift. Perform all skills, treatment and procedures competently
according to the scope of practice as defined in the Nurse Practice
Act in the state of practice and adhere to the policies, procedures
and protocols of the client facility. GENERAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES: Must maintain patient confidentiality. Adhere to
work and time schedules and policies. Participate in annual
credentialing/compliance requirements to include Mandatory
Educational Training. Adhere to nursing, facility and agency
policies and procedures. Must provide quality patient care within
scope of practice and by following established standards. Must
understand that self-cancellations are not acceptable, a verbal
commitment is a binding contract. Must be willing to float to areas
within professional capacity. REASONING ABILITY: Must be dependable
and make on the spot decisions regarding patient safety and care.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Intermittent physical activity including walking,
standing, sitting, lifting and supporting patients Must be able to
physically perform up to a 12-hour shift if required Must be able
to lift and transfer patients up to 6 inches from a stooped
position, then push or pull the patient up to 3 feet. In addition,
must be able to lift and transfer patients from a stooped to an
upright position to accomplish bed-to-chair and chair-to-bed
transfers. Must be able to physically apply up to 10 pounds of
pressure to bleeding sites or in performing Perform visual
activities involving objects, persons, and paperwork as well as
discriminate depth and color perception Must be able to perform a
patient assessment through visualization, direct and indirect
auscultation, and detection of odors, palpitation, and percussion
Discriminate between sharp/dull and hot/cold while using hands
Respond and react immediately to auditory requests, instructions,
monitor equipment, and perform auditory auscultation without
auditory impediments Demonstrate dexterity and range of motion
conducive to assisting patients and manipulating equipment without
threatening or violating safety protocols Must be able to work at
full professional capacity without restrictions WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is normally performed in a healthcare facility environment.
May be exposed to virus, disease and infection from patients and
specimens in working environment. Scheduling is based on
operational need (rotate shifts, standby, AA, on-call). May
experience traumatic situations including psychiatric, dismembered
and deceased patients. EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES MAY OCCUR WHICH
CAUSE EXEMPTIONS TO THE ESTABLISHED STANDARDS. IF THIS OCCURS A
