Job Description:
Job Title: Pediatric Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered
Nurse) Specialty: Pediatric RN Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour
Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year in
Pediatrics License: Valid RN license required Certifications: BLS,
PALS Must-Have: - Experience in a busy pediatric floor - Ability to
draw labs and manage central lines - Openness to travel assignments
and first-time travelers Description: The department has 24 beds
with an average census of 12 patients. The nurse-patient ratio is
1:3 for total patient care and 1:4-5 with a nursing assistant.
Common diagnoses include respiratory conditions, traumas, surgical
cases, neuro issues, suicide risks, overdoses, and eating
disorders. RNs are not required to titrate drips, and there are no
common titratable or set rate drips. Charge nurses take patient
assignments and modify as needed. There are nursing assistants
paired with 2 RNs for 8-10 patients. An intensivist is not on-site
but resides within 10 minutes; residents are available 24/7.
Respiratory therapy equipment used includes masks, nasal cannulas,
and end-tidal CO2 monitoring. Telemetry technicians monitor
remotely; RNs should have basic arrhythmia knowledge. Shifts are
self-scheduled in a tiered approach, with no block scheduling
allowed. Lunch breaks are highly encouraged. Every other weekend
and holiday work is required. There is no call or standby
requirement. Floating to PICU may occur, with possible floating to
NICU if experienced. All staff may be floated to adult areas as
observers based on census needs. The dress code is clean and
professional, appropriate for pediatric care. Unit-specific
orientation includes a general hospital orientation followed by
unit training. All clinicians must clock in and out during their
shifts.
