today. Schedule Weekly Hours: 0 Casual/On-Call RN position
available in the Employee Health Services department Minimum
requirement of 48 hours per 6 week schedule. 4 or 8 hour shifts
available, as well as weekend shifts. Shifts may start as early as
5am and may run as late as 7pm. Job Description: Functions
independently as an agent of the patient/employee while providing
the full scope of nursing care according to established protocols
and using nursing process. Analyzes information, monitors
patient/employee, and takes action to facilitate wellness and
healing. Provides employee health services to Gundersen Health
System employees, students and volunteers. Assumes role of care
manager for work injured Gundersen Health System employees.
Delegates and supervises assistive personnel. Meets the
expectations of a professional employee. Role is professional and
specialized. Employees of Gundersen Health System are the patients
in this position description. Major Responsibilities: 1. Patient
Information Analysis: * Collaborates with patient/family and
prioritize patient needs, problems and goals; intervenes or
refers.
* Evaluates, compares and interprets ambiguous and changing patient
data.
* Explores patients understanding and knowledge of current health
status.
* Gathers pertinent employee health information to determine need
for care and/or referral.
* Responsible for assessing and analyzing injured employee to
evaluate the medical and vocational needs required to facilitate
the employee's appropriate and timely return to work. 2. Patient
Observation and Monitoring: * Applies nursing judgment to determine
level of care assigned or delegated.
* Uses knowledge of complex physiology to monitor, detect, and
anticipate early and subtle health status changes.
* Monitors, trends and records patient response to disease,
illness, treatment.
* Maintains accurate and current confidential EHS documentation for
all employees and volunteers (including specific required
information only.) Documents encounters in EHS database. Inputs
immunization and TB skin testing data information intothe
GundersenHealth Systemelectronic medical record.
* Monitors injured employee's progress toward desired outcomes
through assessment and evaluation. 3. Nursing Action: * Accountable
for individualized plan of care and its delivery. a) Applies
specialized expertise to solve problems, generate ideas, plan care,
teach and create new services. b) Assigns Standards of Care c) Uses
scientific background, knowledge of change theory, ability to work
with an interdisciplinary team and psychosocial skills to
coordinate effective and efficient care for the patient. d)
Collaborates with patients about plan of care. e) Guides
development of multiple health care partnerships to achieve a
positive health effect. * Maintains purposeful therapeutic presence
with patient based on nursing judgment.
* Provides direct nursing care to employees, including assessment,
treatment, education, evaluation and referral according to
established protocolsbased onnursing judgment. Functions under
Standing orders to provide appropriate care to employees.
* Uses patients' perspective to support informed
decision-making.
* Works with other departments/personnel, such asIRC, IC, lab,
infectious disease, and EHS medical directorto provide follow-up
and information to employees for work injuries, ergonomic
assessments, work related exposures.
* Communicates both in-person and telephonically with employees,
medical providers and workers compensation insurance carriers. 4.
Promotes wellness and facilitates healing: * Anticipates future
needs and educates or refers to valid sources of information.
* Understands the patient's unique perspective and assures right
education, right time, right environment for learning.
* Evaluates outcome of learning.
* Provides education and counseling to employees to assist in
nicotine cessation.
* Assist in developing and providing ongoing education programs in
cooperation with various committees, departments, i.e. Infection
Control, Safety, etc. 5. Delegation and supervision of assistive
personnel: * Delegates care based on situation while assuming
accountability for patient outcome.
* Fosters teamwork and respect.
* Assures effective use of staffing resources.
* Supports assistive personnel: Serves as a resource and holds
assistive personnel accountable to complete delegated tasks.
* Provides training and education to assistive personnel to provide
services to meet goals of EHS. 6. Professional expectations: *
Ascribes to the ANA Code of Ethics for professional nursing
practice.

changes into their life. 8. Participates in quality improvement
activities in order to improve delivery of EHS services and unit
operations. 9. Uses Gundersen Health System's electronic medical
record to review patient's protected health information to complete
the source patient risk assessment for employee significant
exposures according to established GundersenHealth Systemprotocols
based on CDC and OSHA recommendations for exposure follow up and on
a need to basis when assuming the role of worker compensation case
manager. Education and Learning: REQUIRED Associate degree in
Nursing. Registered nurses without a baccalaureate degree will be
required to get a Bachelor's degree in Nursing within six years of
hire date. DESIRED Bachelor's degree in Nursing Work Experience:
REQUIRED 6 months RN experience in health care setting DESIRED 1
year experience in occupational/employee health or safety or
workers compensation case management. License and Certifications:
REQUIRED Registered Nurse (RN) licensed minimally in the state of
practice, some positions may require additional state RN licenses.
Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR
certification; Heart Saver, Rescue and Military training network
CPR; or the American Red Cross CPR certification (CPR) except
Citizen and Animal classes DESIRED Certified Occupational Health
Nurse (COHN) or Certified Occupational Health Nurse-Specialist
(COHN-S) or Certified Case Manager (CCM) Age Specific Population
Served: Adolescent (13 - 17 years) Adult (18 - 64 years) Geriatric
(65 years & older) OSHA Category: Category I - All Employees in
this job title have a reasonably anticipated risk of occupational
exposure to blood and/or other potentially infectious materials.
