Job DescriptionViterbo University invites applications for an
Assistant Director of Campus Safety and Security. The Assistant
Director of Campus Safety and Security position reports to the
Director of Campus Safety and Security. The Assistant Director of
Campus Safety and Security helps develop and implement operational
standards, policies, and procedures for the safety and security
department. Additionally, plans and implements crime prevention,
patrol schedules, health and safety programs, and emergency
preparedness and response procedures. The Assistant Director is
responsible for the protection of lives and property and the
prevention of crime and disorder on campus property. Conducts
security and safety training for students and employees. Assists
the Director in supervising security staff.Essential Duties and
Responsibilities: SAFETY AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS (60%)
- Serves as the university's Clery Compliance Officer.
- Prepares the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (Clery) as
required by the government.
- Ensures university's compliance with local, state, and federal
laws. Maintains required records, communications, crime logs, crime
reports, and other regulations related to security and safety.
- Prepares crime statistic requests to law enforcement agencies
for preparation of the Annual Security Report.
- Attends training related to the Annual Security Report
(Clery).
- Develops and implements emergency preparedness plans, security
and safety protocols for specific threats, training activities, and
drills for employees and students. Develops and promotes
educational events related to campus safety. Coordinates annual
test of all emergency alarm and notification systems. Coordinates
the annual campus wide tornado drill.
- Monitors security, surveillance, emergency notifications and
fire alarms.
- Assists the Director of Campus Safety and Security in
supervision of security officers. This will be an 50% on-call
rotation of evening, weekends, and holidays.
- Maintains and updates the Campus Safety web page.
- Posts alerts and notifications using campus notification
systems including web site, email, flyers, text, InformaCast, Code
Red, and speakers. Updates signs, emergency flipcharts, and
evacuation routes.SECURITY (40%)
- Provides protection of university personnel, property, and
guests. Serves as supervisor for security patrol officers and is
available via phone to assist with emergencies, difficult
situations, resolution to problems, and shift coverage as needed on
a rotating basis with the Director of Campus Safety and
Security.
- Responds to and follows up on complaints, disturbances, and/or
requests to prevent potentially dangerous situations from occurring
on campus property. Investigates incidents and violations, collects
evidence, interviews witnesses, and resolves problems.
- Oversees and improves university video surveillance, fire, and
security systems.
- Identifies hazards to security and safety. Coordinates efforts
on a continual basis to prevent accidents and promote
safety.GENERAL
- Approves timecards for Campus Safety officers in collaboration
with the Director/in the Director's absence. Compiles and maintains
statistical data, issues written correspondence and reports, and
supervises the maintenance of all records in relation to the Annual
Security Report.
- Represents the institution as a liaison with local public
safety agencies and other campuses when the Director of Campus
Safety and Security is not available.
- Serves as a member of the Emergency Response Committee (meeting
attendance to be coordinated with supervisor) and Emergency
Response Incident Response Team.
- Works with the Director of Campus Safety and Security on
department goals and objectives. Keeps abreast of innovations in
the field of campus public safety including crime prevention and
reporting, emergency preparedness and response, safety and security
standards, emerging technical and professional aspects of the
position and university student culture.
- Carries out other responsibilities as delegated or
assigned.General Requirements/Qualifications: Bachelor's degree
preferred. Minimum 5 years experience in related safety, security,
or law enforcement position(s) and valid driver's license required.
Experience with Federal Clery Law preferred. Work history should
demonstrate experience with duties requiring computer literacy,
attention to detail, high levels of accuracy, multi-tasking,
ability to work with frequent interruptions, and maintaining
confidentiality. Must possess good judgment, professional bearing,
and ability to exercise discretion. Some evening and weekend hours
required; must be able to respond promptly to emergencies. Must be
authorized to work in the United States. Viterbo University is
