Description of College / Department / Program / Division / Unit The Division of Student Affairs' role is to enhance and support students learning experience here at UWL . We work closely with faculty, staff, community members, alumni and most importantly, students to provide quality programs and services which promote learning, leadership, involvement, service and the celebration of diversity. The Division includes a number of departments: Campus Child Center, Counseling and Testing, Student Health Center, Intercollegiate Athletics, Recreational Sports, Residence Life, Student Life, University Centers, and the Vice Chancellor & Dean of Students office. The staff of the Division is truly student-centered and concerned about the holistic development of the student. Position Summary The Director of Recreational Sports leads a comprehensive, student-centered program designed to meet the recreational needs of a diverse campus community of over 10,000 students. Due to the retirement of the long-serving Director, UW-La Crosse has begun a new nationwide search for the next Director of Recreational Sports at UWL . We are looking forward to welcoming a new director by July 1, 2021. The Director's portfolio includes oversight of a 140,000-square foot stand-alone recreation facility; a team of seven full time professionals, five custodians, and over 200 student employees; $2.6 million budget; and the following programs and services: fitness, indoor climbing, informal recreation, instructional programs, intramural sports, outdoor trips and equipment rentals, sport clubs, special events, and athletic training. The Director of Recreational Sports collaborates with campus partners to enhance the student experience and support student success by fostering the delivery of programs and services that meet the holistic needs of an active community. The Director of Recreational Sports reports to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. The approved annual target salary for this position is $78,000. Required Qualifications --- Master's degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Student Affairs, or related field
--- Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience with recreation services, preferably at the collegiate/university level, to include the development, implementation, administration, and assessment of programs and services
--- Commitment to student learning and engagement
--- Demonstrated budgetary experience in development, management and fiscal reporting
--- Demonstrated personnel management experience with development of professional and student staff
--- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
--- Must be a team player, promote collaboration, and work cooperatively with others
--- Ability to work independently, plan and organize work efficiently and accurately, maintain multiple ongoing projects at any given time, and communicate effectively and in a professional manner with all levels
--- Strong interpersonal skills (both written and verbal) and commitment to quality customer service
--- Valid driver's license Preferred Qualifications --- Prior director level work experience in recreation or a related unit
--- Ten or more years of progressively responsible experience with recreation services, preferably at the collegiate/university level, to include the development, implementation, administration, and assessment of programs and services
--- Five years of supervisory experience and department leadership
--- Financial oversight of a departmental or significant budget of six figures or higher.
--- Demonstrated experience and ability to work as part of, and lead a collaborative team of professionals, custodians, and student employees
--- Experience in facilities/operations management, capital projects, strategic planning, and program design & development
--- Strategic thinking and planning skills
--- Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships within division and throughout the institution
--- Active involvement in NIRSA
--- Current certification in first aid, CPR , and AED Physical Demands --- Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit to perform essential job functions: lift, carry, push/pull on an occasional basis
--- Ability to work in various positions, i.e. bending, crawling, reaching, climbing, stooping or kneeling. Some work may require repetitive motion

--- Manage facility preventive maintenance, make decisions regarding service and supply expenses, capital planning, and equipment repair/replacement expenditures
--- Develop and facilitate long-range planning for facility enhancements and preventive maintenance
