Job Description:
PURPOSE:Responsible for the engineering and design of the
physical aspects of transmission and distribution substations. As a
member of a team, resolve problems that may impact Dairyland and
its member cooperatives and municipals. Provide continuing
technical support to other departments internally to Dairyland and
externally, as necessary, to support Dairyland and its member
cooperatives and municipals.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible, with minimal supervision, for the engineering and
design of high voltage and medium voltage substation. Engineering
and design of substations to include general arrangements,
equipment and electrical layout, elevations, cable trench and
raceway design, foundation design, bills of materials, and AC and
DC power systems.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry and safety standards
and codes including RUS, OSHA, ANSI, NEC, NESC, local and other
applicable standards and codes.
- Responsible for the preparation and revisions of material and
equipment specifications. Work with purchasing and project
management staff to procure material necessary for substation
maintenance and construction activities.
- Coordinate with other Dairyland technical and field personnel
to assist in problems solving, construction changes and schedule
changes.
- Responsible for creating or assisting project managers with
creating project scopes, cost estimates and schedules for capital
and maintenance projects.
- Responsible for performing engineering calculations relating
the physical design of the substations such as, equipment ratings,
bus calculations and others.
- Perform other duties as assigned.MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree
in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Structural
Engineering from an accredited university. Three (3) years of
progressive experience in the areas of substation physical design,
substation protection and control design or structural design.
Knowledge of project estimating and engineering economics. Engineer
in Training (EIT) certification is
preferred.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Requires a high degree of understanding for spatial concepts,
mathematics, mechanics and statistics
- Must have good oral and written communication skills
- Experience with computer aided drafting software such as
AutoCAD is preferred
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills,
with the ability to interface effectively with individuals at
various levels
- Must be self-motivated, and able to work with minimal
supervision.
- Knowledge of power systems is desirable
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel,
Power Point, etc.)Physical Demands: The physical demands described
