Trane Technologies needs you as an integral part of the Materials
Engineering team to advance the development of innovative air
conditioning and refrigeration components & systems within our
Materials and Chemistry team. This Materials Lab Engineer requires
diverse knowledge of materials testing and a good understanding of
the properties of materials for use in compressors, heat exchangers
and climate control system design. The role is primarily
responsible for testing of a variety of materials, working with
teams supporting materials selection as well as performance
evaluations under design stresses and challenging system
Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):
- Provide metallurgical test support and materials evaluation
expertise for new technology platforms, new product development,
and reliability projects for HVAC&R systems and
- Apply materials knowledge to the development of lab test
methods to facilitate creation of specifications and engineering
- Conduct metallurgical evaluations and write technical reports
to communicate results.
- Interact closely with multi-disciplinary teams including
materials, chemistry, quality, reliability, manufacturing, and
product development engineers to support failure resolution, new
technology applications, and product development efforts.
- Lead materials testing efforts using engineering tools and lab
instrumentation such as SEM, EDS, mechanical testing, hardness,
fatigue, corrosion & weathering, and advanced optical
- Less than 10% overnight travel.
- Bachelor's Degree in Materials Engineering (or similar
discipline) is required.
- Strong background in metallurgical/materials
- Experience with failure analysis and metallurgical testing
instrumentation & techniques using destructive & non-destructive
methods, such as SEM, EDS, metallography, mechanical
- Proficient in problem solving with excellent written & verbal
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and
