Summary of Position:

The Dean advances the strategic vision and provides the academic leadership required to achieve high standards of excellence in instruction and services, with measurable outcomes for faculty, staff, and students as they relate to academic planning, programming, and assessment. The Dean will incorporate a strategic and collaborative approach in the development of programs and resource management while working within budget parameters. The Dean leads their faculty in continuous quality improvement in all areas of teaching and learning, assessment, the use of Universal Design, and Western's Educational Justice Framework of trauma informed, poverty informed, and culturally responsive teaching to promote social justice in all learning environments. The Dean leads their division in the adoption of emerging instructional technology and in the development of flexible programming to increase Western's presence, service, support, and compliance within the distance education and alternative delivery market. The Dean builds relationships with internal and external stakeholders through the shared College vision, mission, and values and meets the needs of employers and students. This position requires a flex schedule which may include occasional evenings and weekends. This position works to promote social justice within the division and the larger academic institution.
Essential Functions
1. Maintain and uphold the College values of Learning, Excellence, Accountability, Diversity, Student Success, Teamwork, Integrity, and Respect.

2. Complete all required College training and responsible for maintaining the skills necessary to complete the essential functions of the position as defined by the department.

3. Student Success is the cornerstone of Western's culture and the college may assign employees as needed to other areas or additional duties to foster this success.

4. Leadership - Supporting Action/Task May Include:

  • Lead/participate on College, statewide, program advisory, and community committees.
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned staff to include hiring, promoting employee success, and recommending personnel actions in accordance with policies and procedures of the College, regulatory bodies, and contractual agreements.
  • Ensure faculty follow Western's Faculty Professional Learning Plan and Evaluation process.
  • Meet with and assist students as needed to support student success and retention.
  • Design, administer, and implement comprehensive programs for the assigned division.
  • Provide overall leadership and evidence-based research for the division's strategic planning activities to align with the College's strategic plan, Academic Master Plan, and continuous quality improvement process.
  • Develop and maintain policies consistent with academic and College-level policies, procedures, processes and a data collection, analysis, and reporting system for division activities.
  • Support the development of faculty to ensure that instruction meets the standards of Western Technical College and utilizes Western's Educational Justice Framework to support Western's diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) focus.5. Division Specific - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
  • Supervise assigned programs and departments
  • Oversee the development and ongoing updates to the Academic Technology and Flexible Learning Strategic Plans.
  • Co-Lead the New Program Development team with Institutional Research.
  • Partner with Equity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement Division to ensure that the integration of Educational Justice across academics is in alignment with Western's DEI plan.
  • Partner with the Human Resources and Professional Development Division to ensure that the Faculty Professional Learning offerings align with the College-wide professional development plan.
  • Coordinate, implement, and revise Western's Faculty Professional Learning Plan and Evaluation process in conjunction with the Human Resources Division.
    Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in related field
  • 3 years teaching experience at higher education institutions or at the K12 level
  • 4 years of formal administrative leadership experience (Preference will be given to those with experience in an academic/higher education setting)Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading DEI initiatives, preferably in an academic setting, strongly preferred

    This position reports to: Vice President - Academic Affairs

    Starting Annual Salary: $85,986 - $112,470 This position would include competitive salary, along with a wide variety of benefits available to full-time Western Technical College Employees. These benefits include: health, dental, life, retirement - Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), voluntary vision, supplemental Allstate insurance (accident, critical illness and cancer), pet insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance plans, flexible spending account for health & dependent care, employee assistance program (EAP), and tax sheltered annuity programs -457 & 403(b).
